Soccer

Sept 14 2019 (2)

Soccer is our newest sport established in 2015, and we have had a steadily growing amount of players each year.  We are a fun in house recreation league for athletes of all abilities, with all of our games being played at Saint Athanasius's sports complex.

Our fields are smaller than a regulation soccer field so, to compensate, we play with less players on the field. The pace of play is fast and suitable for all levels and all abilities.
Games are usually Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Soccer runs from September through early November with registration starting in Mid-June. All teams are made up of boys and girls ages 3 through 8th grade.

Our 3 and 4 year olds make up our Instructional Division, and they play on Sunday mornings. In this division we focus on beginner skills, and basic soccer fundamentals, such as footwork.

Athletes in Pre-K and Kindergarten make up our Rookie Division.  At this age we split the athletes into teams. Each of our sessions start with a practice followed by a game. Score is kept for each game, however there are no standings and no playoffs. The Rookie division usually meets on Sundays, with a few Friday nights mixed in as well.

Our 2nd through 4th graders compete in our Champions Division. Here athletes are divided into teams, where each team plays a full schedule, and competes at least twice a weekend.  Teams are made up of 10 to 12 athletes, with 7 athletes playing at a time. This division plays on some Friday nights at 6PM, as well as Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings. Coaches may also schedule practices during weeknights if they choose to. In these games, score is kept and standings are updated regularly.

Our 5th through 8th graders make up our Premiere Division. These teams are no more than 12 players, with 6 players per team on the field at one time.  Games are usually Friday nights, under the lights, at 8PM, as well as Saturday afternoons, with a few Sundays mixed in. Coaches may also request a weeknight practice if he or she chooses to.  In these games, score is kept and standings are updated regularly, and there is a full playoff schedule as well.
